Pudong Campus: Book Recommendations
最是书香能致远，腹有诗书气自华。不知不觉，学期过半，上海中学国际部浦东校区的孩子们在11月9日和11日个人成长课上迎来了令人期待的好书推荐活动，以此帮助学生们拓宽阅读视野，在阅读中收获快乐，不断成长。
Time flies! We’ve already gone through half of this semester. In the PG classes on November 9th and 11th, students and staff at SHSID Pudong Campus welcomed the highly anticipated book recommendations. We hope it will help students to broaden their horizons on reading and improve their reading abilities.
书是了解世界的钥匙。在11月9日一至三年级的好书推荐活动中，每个年级的中教和外教都推荐了适合自己年级学生读的书。一年级Mr. Lucas推荐了《Magic Tree House Series》 《Dog Man Series》等；二年级邓琰老师推荐了系列故事书《米小圈上学记》及历史绘本书《我们的历史》；三年级杨村老师推荐了充满中国文化气息的《藏在地图里的古诗词》和《故宫里的大怪兽》。其他老师推荐的书目也风趣十足，各有特色。
Books are keys to learning more about the world. On November 9th, teachers from grade one to three recommended some books that first to third-grade students may be interested in. Mr. Lucas from Grade 1 recommended Magic Tree House Series and Dog Man Series. Ms. Deng Yan from Grade 2 suggested Mi Xiaoquan’s Stories in School and Our History. Ms. Yang Cun from Grade 3 recommended Ancient Poems Hidden in the Map and A Huge Monster in the Imperial Palace, which were all related to Chinese culture. Books recommended by other teachers were also exciting and distinctive.
除此之外，四五年级的学生为一到三年级的学弟学妹们准备了好书推荐的视频。4-1班Leyla推荐了《Geronimo Stilton》，4-2班Andrew推荐了《Wings Fire》，还有5-2班Jason推荐了《阁楼上的精灵》。活动过后，大家都迫不及待地想要在书的海洋中徜徉。
Students from grades 4 and 5 prepared videos to introduce their recommendations to the younger students. Leyla from 4-1 recommended Geronimo Stilton, and from 5-2, Jason is The Genie in the Attic. Andrew, from 4-2, recommended Wings Fire. After the activity, all the students could not wait to read these books.
书是放飞心灵的翅膀。在11月11日，四、五年级的好书推荐活动中，每班1至2位学生上台分享了自己喜欢的读物。5-1班Isabella分享了她对于《The Chronicals of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe》的喜爱，许多读过这本书的学生纷纷举手赞同。其他同学推荐的书目也深深地吸引了学生们。
Books are wings to set you free. On November 11th, 1-2 students from each class in Grades 4 and 5 shared books they liked. From 5-1, Isabella recommended The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and showed how she loved the book. Many students who have read this book also raised their hands to show they strongly agreed with Isabella. Books recommended by other students were also excellent reads.
随后，四五年级的老师们也带来了适合学生们读的书，从中国传统文化启蒙读物，到英文畅销小说，各种类型，不一而足。其中，五年级的潘颖颖老师推荐了《佐贺的超级阿嬷》，讲述了作者岛田洋七和自己外婆相依为命的故事，传递了感人肺腑的故事和积极乐观的价值观。在老师和同学们的倾情推荐之后，大家都想立刻去图书馆借书啦！
After that, teachers from Grade 4 and 5 shared some books with students. The types of books varied, from Chinese cultural enlightenment to English fiction. Ms. Pan from Grade 5 recommended Zuo He’s Super Grandma from Yôshichi Shimada. This book tells the moving stories between the author and his grandma, showing the positive attitude he keeps for life. After all the recommendations from teachers and students, everyone wanted to rush to the library for the books.
希望同学们通过此次好书推荐活动能够主动寻找自己感兴趣的图书，探索新体裁来扩充知识储备；同时也希望通过阅读，学生们的视野更加开阔，拥有独立思考的能力，收获知识的同时，快乐成长。
We hope that students will explore more interesting books to expand their knowledge and vocabulary from these book recommendations. Also, we look forward to seeing that students gain a broader vision, cultivate independent learning abilities, and achieve happiness and success in the future through reading!
